One of my favourite shops in the Newtown district. I do coffee-cup reading here as the shops' friendly proprietor Nurettin Akgun always offers a peaceful, authentic place full of magnificent Turkish rugs, ceramic tiles and crockery for sale. Good place for inner-peace.

I found this website through Leonie S?kan, when she invited me to the Belly Dance Expo for coffee-cup readings. Leonie is the Principal of the Newtown Middle Eastern Dance Centre and Director of the Sydney Middle Eastern Dance Festival. Leonie is also the Artistic Director of Sydney's most successful belly dance group: The Turkish Delights. They are individually talented with skills such as sword balancing, stick, veil work and finger cymbal playing. The delights are also renowned for their audience participation skills together with their wacky sense of humour!

On 25th of July 2010, I participated in the The Rocks Aroma Festival as a Turkish psychic and coffee-cup reader. I received great interest and an encouraging response from the Sydneysiders of many nationalities. Irfan Ugur, a successful Turkish businessman, is organizing the Turkish Coffee House as a part of the festival since 1998. Here, belly dancers, whirling dervishes, camel riding and of course the world famous Turkish coffee can all be experienced at this festival with the back drop of the Sydney Harbour, with it's bridge and Opera House. An `East meets West` type of contrast!

From "A" to "Z" you will find every single detail about the Turkish coffee tradition, including the original coffee pots and grinders. As I love history I like the page of Turkish Coffee Houses. Just to give you a glimpse I put one paragraph of this page here: "The first coffeehouse ever was opened in 1554 during the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent. Two people, one person from Aleppo and another from Damascus have opened this coffeehouse jointly in the Tahtakale district of Istanbul, a vibrant commercial centre even today... "
